Annual Philmont Crew Allotment Process
Who gets to join Patriots' Path Philmont contingent
and when do they go?
On the fourth Tuesday of January, the High Adventure Committee of Patriots' Path Council holds their annual meeting to determine the crews that will participate in the council's 18 month Watchu Experience. The Watchu Experience is Patriots' Path Council's Trail to Philmont. Our council currently has twenty annual Philmont crew allocations. There are five categories of crews. In priority order, they are:
At the meeting, the contingent crews will be selected. The twenty successful crews will select their Philmont travel date based on their category and their travel date selection priority within their category.
District Provisional Crews are given first priority in the Philmont crew allotment process. Travel date selection priority for District Provisional Crews is based on a drawing.
Second priority in the Philmont crew allotment process goes to Watchu Sabattis Crews. There are up to eight Watchu Sabattis Crews each year. The requirements are defined on the Watchu Sabattis Adirondack Trek page. Travel date selection priority among the Watchu Sabattis Crews is determined on a first come, first served basis in completing the Watchu Sabattis Crew requirements.
The third priority in the Philmont crew allotment process goes to Patriots' Path crews that:
Travel date selection priority of these crews is based upon the Watchu Philmont lottery results from the prior year.
The fourth priority in the Philmont crew allotment process goes to crews that submitted timely crew applications in the current year. These crews participate in the current year Watchu Philmont lottery. Travel date selection priority for the lottery participants is established based upon the results of the lottery. More details on the lottery can be found on the current Philmont Crew Application.
Patriots' Path Council crews who participated in the Watchu Philmont lottery and were not selected for a crew allocation are placed on the wait list in the order they were selected in the lottery. Out-of-council crews go to the wait list the night of the lottery and are assigned allocations on a first come, first served basis after all Patriots' Path crews. Any crews that submit applications after the cut-off date for the current year lottery are assigned a wait list priority on a first come, first served basis. Crews that submit applications after the cut-off date have no priority that carries over to the subsequent year.
